Africa's World Cup Stars Unite To Fight Malaria

On April 25th, World Malaria Day, International French speaking TV TV5 launched a series of spots featuring ten African soccer players who support the global fight against malaria. These 30 second spots will be broadcast internationally until the end of the 2010 World Soccer Cup in South Africa. The same series of spots will also be broadcast by French radio station RFI (Radio France Internationale) as of 31 may 2010.

United Against Malaria released the first 10 television spots featuring African football champions from across the malaria-endemic continent. Conceived and directed by Mams Yaffa of Esprit d'Ebene, based in Paris, the campaign communicates the power of long-lasting insecticide treated mosquito nets. Each spot is available in English, French, Portuguese, Swahili, Wolof and several other local languages. Twenty-three television spots are now ready for release during the campaign, starting in January for the African Cup of Nations and airing on the European Broadcasting Union; the Commonwealth Network; South African News and Sports Exchange; SABC; MNET; and the African Broadcasting Union. The entire series will be made available again to all of the above for broadcast during the World Cup in June and July 2010.
